Natural Corridor Between Forest Patches and Water
Gal Oya Eco Park is centred around Senanayake Samudraya, Sri Lanka’s largest reservoir, which shapes both the landscape and wildlife behaviour. The mix of forest, grassland, and water creates a less disturbed environment compared to busier parks, supporting a wide range of mammals, birds, and aquatic life.
One of the area’s distinctive features is the movement of elephants between forest patches and islands, occasionally seen swimming across open water, a behaviour rarely observed elsewhere in the country.
Why Mobile Camping Works Here & What to Expect
Visits here tend to be quieter and slower-paced, shaped by water-based exploration rather than constant vehicle movement. Boat safaris offer a different perspective, allowing observation of wildlife from a distance without disturbing natural behaviour.
